Norway or Sweden: Where should the package be sent?

Ordering from abroad? Learn when it pays to send the package to our warehouse in Sweden or Norway for easier cross-border shopping and forwarding.

Norway or Sweden: Where should the package be sent?

When shopping at international online stores, you often face challenges with shipping restrictions or high fees for delivery to Norway. The choice between sending the item to an address in Sweden or directly to Norway can have a significant impact on both logistics and import costs.

Pick n' Pack operates terminals in both Halden and Strömstad to provide you with flexibility regardless of where the online store is located. Here is a practical guide on how to choose the correct receiving address.

Sending to Strömstad: For trade within the EU

If you are shopping from an online store in Germany, Sweden, or another EU country, it is often most practical to use our warehouse in Strömstad. Many European stores offer free or affordable shipping within the EU, but charge high amounts for export to countries outside the customs union.

By using our address in Sweden, you can collect several purchases before they are forwarded to Norway. We offer consolidation, which means we place your unopened packages into a larger box for combined forwarding. This simplifies the overview when the goods are to cross the border.

For goods sent from countries outside the EU to our Swedish warehouse, Swedish import duties may apply before forwarding to Norway. You can read more about current rules at Tullverket.

Sending to Halden: For trade in Norway

If you are shopping from a Norwegian online store but are staying abroad or need temporary storage, our warehouse in Halden is the right choice. This is also relevant for businesses that need a central hub near the border.

For private customers who want forwarding of packages purchased in Norway, we use fixed routes with Posten or DHL Express depending on the package's weight and destination. You will find detailed options in our order form for private individuals.

Customs and import when crossing the border

When a package is sent from our warehouse in Sweden to an address in Norway, this is considered an import. It is important to remember that:

    • Value Added Tax (VAT) and any customs duties are calculated based on the item's value and type.
    • Posten and other carriers normally perform the customs clearance in the recipient country.
    • For shipments to the USA or Puerto Rico, import duties must be paid before dispatch from our warehouse.

A practical example: A customer buys clothes from a French online store that does not ship to Norway. The customer provides our address in Strömstad as the delivery address. When the package arrives at our warehouse, we register it, and the customer orders forwarding to their home address in Oslo via our portal.

You can check available routes and services on our pages for private individuals.

    Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Can you repack my goods to save space?
We offer consolidation, which means we place your unopened original packages into a common outer packaging. We do not open retail packaging or remove original packaging from the manufacturer.

How much does it cost in customs?
Customs rates depend on the type of goods, country of origin, and value. We recommend using Tolletaten's import calculator for accurate estimates for import into Norway.

    Which carriers do you use?
For standard packages from Norway, we primarily use Posten (up to 20 kg). For heavier shipments or express deliveries, we use DHL Express up to 70 kg, provided the route and dimensions are supported in our checkout.

What happens if I order goods with lithium batteries?
Shipping lithium batteries is a special handling service that requires approval from the carrier and entails separate fees. Always check the current terms in the order form before sending such goods to our warehouse.
